HOUSTON – July 31, 2018 – The Lone Star Stroke Consortium Executive Committee, researchers, coordinators and staff held their annual meeting on July 28, 2018, in Houston. The public was invited to attend and the meeting was broadcast live on our website.
PIs gave updates on several statewide studies that LSS is conducting to reduce the incidence of stroke for all Texans.
Nursing Driven Acute Stroke Care (NAS-Care) study tests ‘pit-stop’ process improvement for treating stroke emergencies at remote hospitals in Texas. Cheyenne Marcelus presented interim study results from 7 hospitals with 484 patients enrolled.
START trial. Fifteen percent of strokes in the U.S. are associated with atrial fibrillation but the optimal time to initiate oral anticoagulation is not known. The START trial is seeking to best time to give oral anticoagulation for Afib patients.
