A Statewide Study to Improve Stroke Care in Texas (ASSIST)

Study Synopsis

This study will use a mixed-methods design to provide data that can be used to promote TNK implementation for eligible Acute Ischemic Stroke patients across Texas. This is an implementation science study that falls into the category of translational (T4) research. The primary aim of the study is to identify those barriers and facilitators to TNK implementation which are most generalizable to a diverse cohort of hospitals.

The data will be collected through a series of qualitative and quantitative surveys. Our goal for the quantitative survey is to cover 42 hospitals throughout Texas and do a round of qualitative interviews till saturation and a suitable degree of rigor is reached.

Research Update

We began doing the ASSIST survey from November 2022 and have covered 36 out of the potential 42 hospitals in the quantitative survey. We have covered 4 hospitals in the qualitative interview portion.

Plans for Fiscal Year 2023

We plan to analyze and publish the data that we acquire through the surveys. Our ultimate goal is to make a tool kit that can help hospitals that haven’t transitioned to tenecteplase, to transition to TNK. We want to make the transiton process easier.
